The only difference is that in MH-W if I run out of supplies, I can go back to camp and make more to stand a chance. I would say they are about on par with Tempered Elder Dragons with the armor that I'm currently rocking. I mean, the difficulty of Maelstrom monsters far exceeds even tempered monsters in MH-W. I feel like this is a decent chunk of HP, but manageable, but the second I run out of bulwark everything just goes to hell and I get chain one-shot, by literally any stray attack that a behemoth throws out. I spend about 60-70% of my attacks on the pylons, which have WAY too much HP, imho.Įven with a Bulwark Tonic, a Pangar's flippy attack when he smacks his tail down on you after a flip does about 45% of my HP and god forbid if I get hit by his roll, which he spams like crazy, it's over 50% with Bulwark up. And stormclaw, don't even get me started on that fight. Booping these monsters is inconstant at best with the amount of desync and teleporting they have. There are times that Pangar and Hellion are just chain rolling after allies for what seems like minutes on end, and when I finally line up for a good swipe on the tail, my hit doesn't register even with my overhead swing as an axe user. After that, every res is one more hit before you're back down.Ħ or so hits against a monster with THAT much HP, and with some of the monsters movement and hitboxes being slippery or just plain out buggy, the difficulty spike into the maelstrom isn't fun, it's tedious and is making me not want to continue playing. Now, I'm not asking for an easy fight, especially as you get further in the game, but ignoring the aether vents which you may or may not actually get an opportunity to partake in between the aggression of the boss and any allies that may be around, you can take a total of 6 hits before you're down. I just got to the point in the story where I have to patrol the Maelstrom 5 times, and the best that I can make is T3 armor (I think it's T3, I'm not really sure what the tiers are in this game.) I have this armor maxed out and one hit from several behemoth attacks will take 75% of my HP.
